Dream Weaving - The Write Spot Vision
I remember the first story that I ever told. I was about three years old sitting down by my father telling him some crazy story about a family of rabbits. He just sat, smiled and listened to this facinating tale coming out of the mouth of his baby girl. When I recall that moment I now know that it was also a God inspired place in time because the story had a beginning, middle and ending and I don't think that three years olds normally rattle off in that much detail. That was the divine juice that starting my writing connection because as soon as I learned to create letters I started writing these little stories and my mother kept them all.
I don't think it was until I was in second grade that I began to realize that my writing was a gift. That was brought to my attention by a wonderful teacher who I will never forget. Her name was Katherine T. Kelly Glass. That little lady connected with me, got me involved in every writing competition, poetry contest or school competion on the planet. She saw something in me and pushed me to keep writing, and between her and my mother they stirred up the gift. So I kept writing, and writing and writing and I am still writing.
Now I want to help others to find a way to tell their story. That is why I have started The Write Spot. A wonderful friend Karen, and I have been working on this for about two years and we finally tossed out the fish net. We met when our daughters attended the same school in kindergarten. They will be turning 16 this year.
My writing path led me into the television and media world. Karen's writing path led her into the world of marketing. So we thought if we put our heads together we could create a very unique place for writers to learn, thrive and find a niche for their dreams.
Tickled Pink
I thought I was excited the day the Lord inspired me for the name of this site. I had all kinds of thoughts in mind. Then one day when I was buzzing around the house, the Lord said, call it The Write Spot because you will be developing a right location for dreams to be birthed, and you will be inspiring people to write. Now I am even more excited by the things being planned.
The driving force behind The Write Spot is this, give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. I remember one particular year when I had a goal to get a specific book published and the whole thing just fell apart. I went to every publishing house I could think of a wound up only with a pile of "we like your writing, but it just does not fit our criteria, sorry and we wish you luck." I realize now that I was trying to get somebody to give me a fish. I was so frustrated, because I knew somebody needed what I wrote. It was heartbreaking that noone would give me the time of day.
I could feel depression trying to creep up on me. So I started to pray. I asked God to give me someone that would teach me how to do this "book thing." Well, I have to leave out a lot of chapters here, but to make a very, very long story short, God sent me a music teacher.
I play the piano and wanted to learn some more theory and I was trying to find a teacher and then one day out of nowhere, I got a letter in the mail about learning how to play chord piano in ten days. I said to myself, I can't believe this - you can't do that. Week after week I kept getting these piano course letters. So finally, I said let me see if this is real so I got the course and loved it. This led me to taking more courses and eventually I developed a good relationship with the instructor. At the time I had no idea he was one of the top guru's of marketing in the world. His name is Duane Shinn and he's something else.
Anyway, one day I told him how much I loved his marketing style and asked him how he did it. Well that led me on one of the greatest adventures of my life, and he will never realize how much his inpiration helped me. At that point he told me who he was and how long he had been in the business. Then he sent me a course that is no longer published which he wrote in the sixties. That little book taught me how to fish and my writing took a path that I never would have imagined. My goal is to help others the way that he helped me.
It is amazing that when I first got started I was reaching people in my city, and this year I had the opportunity to write Duann a thank you note because I got my first order from a person in Japan.
This is the beginning of what we believe will be a very rewarding adventure. We hope to create a family of writers that will impact their world. We encourage you to join us.
